Swings Don’t Shoot Scores. GOLFERS DO!

Shoot Lower Scores with NO Painful Grip or Swing Changes!

Swings adam-scott 400x562This is the 1st of a series of articles I’ll be posting for you on 100 Ways to Shoot Lower Scores. Here’s the great part, I won’t ask you to make ANY painful grip or swing or changes. These are simple and effective ways to have more fun playing better golf starting with your next round!

This series of articles may change the way you think about golf, and what you need to do to shoot lower scores. If it does, I’ll have done the first part of my job!

Here are the 1st five:

  1. Play the shot you KNOW you can hit… not the one you think you SHOULD. Be realistic and your reward will be lower scores.  Trying to hit a 3-wood out of deep rough because your 220 yards away probably is NOT a high percentage shot. In fact, there’s a good chance you’ll be playing your next shot from the same deep rough!  Most likely, that’s a wasted shot or two. Play out of the rough with a wedge and you’ll probably have a wedge (from the fairway) to the green. Doesn’t that make more sense?
  2. Hum or sing while you swing… A simple effective way to eliminate tension and improve your tempo is humming or singing a song to yourself as you swing. Effortless power and more solid strikes will result from a more relaxed you!
  3. Never SHORT SIDE yourself. When the pin is tucked into a corner of the green, the worst place to miss is off that corner of the green.  Whether it’s you, or a PGA Tour player, being “short-sided”, everyone’s percentage of getting it up and down GOES way down!
  4. Play Uphill! This is similar to short siding yourself.  Golf is easier played uphill…that is… when you’re around the greens.  As a general rule…UPHILL chips and putts are easier than DOWNHILL ones – you have more control. Before playing your shot into the green, look to see which way the green and surrounds slope. Hedge your bet to the low side.
  5. Never add INSULT to INJURY. Let’s say you’re in trouble, like IN THE WOODS.  Leave the miracle shots for the likes of Bubba and Phil.  The best chance you have to beat your friends is to play safely back to the fairway and give yourself an opportunity to hit a good shot into the green.  Get out of trouble immediately and chances are you will come out on TOP.
